Mid-City CAN

Developing leaders in City Heights

Mid-City CAN’s goal is to build power in City Heights so that residents can make their highest hopes and dreams reality. Projects include but are not limited to; youth bus passes, halal school lunches, skate parks, and juvenile justice reform.

Instrumental to building community power is building powerful leaders who reflect the diversity of City Heights and who can lead Mid-City CAN’s Momentum Teams and exercise influence in the community and on the boards and commissions that make the decisions impacting City Heights. Our work gets done in Momentum Teams, neighborhood-level action groups where the most pressing issues raised by the people themselves are addressed, but it’s the resident leaders that make them so powerful!

The Mid-City CAN leadership experience is hands-on through Momentum Team Campaigns, the Mid-City CAN Youth Council (a youth organizing program for high school aged young people), and through the Mid-City CAN Resident Leadership Academy and Mid-City CAN Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute. Mid-City CAN Leaders go on to be powerful voices for change, making big impacts on Momentum Teams and Boards and Commissions, as well as mobilizing for action in the Mid-City CAN Leaders Alumni Network. We create a safe, productive, and healthy City Heights through organizing, collaboration, & advocacy ✊🏽
